Close your eyes and imagine that Batman is talking to you. If the voice you hear isn’t Kevin Conroy’s, then you’re doing it wrong. Conroy, who began voicing the role of the Dark Knight in the acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series, is, for many, the definitive voice of Bruce Wayne and Batman. Outside of the Animated Series he’s been the man behind the character in shows, movies, and videogames including Batman Beyond, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

Gaming has long been perceived as a boy’s club, and while it may be true that early videogames were played primarily by males, it’s been a long time since this has been the case. According to to ESA, women now make up nearly half of all gamers with their numbers constantly on the rise. Even so, the roles of women in most games remain limited. If they aren’t being portrayed as sex objects or damsels in distress, they’re often relegated to sidekick status with the protagonist spot reserved for a man.

The outcry from gamers came from a PlayStation pre-order listing for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Initially, the pre-order page listed the game with an “Online play required” tag (it now reads “Online play optional”). Players did not take kindly to the news that a single-player title would need to be connected to the internet at all times. It just didn’t make sense why that would need to be a requirement without multiplayer.

The Assassins Creed games have some great artwork, often featuring styles that span roughly a thousand years of history. One technique that has yet to appear in the game, though, is Art Nouveau. Based on this collection of fan art, though, it clearly needs to be. The artwork is by DeviantArt user S. Strand, who actually has quite a bit of Assassins Creed-themed art on their page (as well as a lot of other stunning pieces).

The little bitty game remains a true joy to play and replay; it’s just a fantastic demo of the PS5 hardware’s capabilities and a remarkable celebration of the PlayStation brand’s past and possible future. Roughly four years later, however, that promising future hasn’t happened, and that makes me sad. By and large, Astro’s Playroom suggested a return to Sony’s most off-beat era when it came to first-party releases. Instead, we’ve seen more problems than ever before hitting the platform and the brand as a whole due to a grave overreliance on AAA releases and live-service projects that just aren’t paying off (with Helldivers 2 being an almost miraculous exception).

If you’re Australian and you’ve ever wished that Batman would wear something a little bit more colorful, then the Steelbox edition of Arkham City might be exactly what you’ve been waiting for. This collector’s edition contains a new bat-suit for the Dark Knight, straight out of the 1970’s comic books, when Batman’s sartorial choices were something other than black and grey. As you can see in the picture above, the 1970’s DLC skin gives Batman a blue cape, trunks, and cowl, and sticks the bat-symbol on his chest in the middle of a yellow oval.

With Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Patch 7 finally available for PC, players can now enjoy features such as the new evil endings for those willing to follow the Absolute’s will and an in-game Mod Manager that makes adding new content (or modifying existing ones) much easier than before. However, one of the many teased features was that “a certain bard could join the party temporarily,” clearly referencing Alfira.

It may not be a new phenomenon – in fact, I’m fairly certain it isn’t – but I’m becoming increasingly irritated by movies deciding that it’s a good idea to mention other, better movies while they’re playing. Take Barely Lethal, for example, which makes reference to both Mean Girls and The Breakfast Club. Whenever one of these references pops up, I began to reminisce about those movies, and wondered why I was wasting my time watching Barely Lethal when I could be re-watching either of those superior high school movies.

The newest game coming from Telltale is their episodic Batman adventure game. Slated to include a “Very upgraded” version of the company’s “Telltale Engine,” the new title will feature Troy Baker as the Dark Knight. There’s a bevy of additional voice talent slated to appear, including Travis Willingham as Harvey Dent, Erin Yvette as Vicki Vale, Enn Reitel as Alfred Pennyworth, Murphy Guyer as Lieutenant James Gordon, Richard McGonagle as Carmine Falcone, and Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle.
