Jaal Ama Darav, the angaran squadmate that was originally exclusively romantic towards Sara Ryder has been expanded. According to the people at Bioware, this change was in response to the lack of same-sex partners for Scott Ryder — previously, it was impossible to earn the achievement for getting romantic with three partners. There were only two male same-sex partners, versus four female same-sex partners. With Jaal’s inclusion, that now ups the number to three.

Hey folks, got a quick PSA for all you Fallout fans: this weekend is your last chance to pick up Fallout 4‘s season pass before its March 1 price hike. Right now, you can buy the pass for $29.99, which guarantees all future content that will be released for the game. On March 1, that price will jump up an extra $20 to $49.99. The reasoning behind this jump is apparently, Bethesda’s DLC plans are a lot more grandiose than originally projected, and the developer claims that it now has $60 worth of DLC in development for the game.
Australia’s Classification Board is at it again, deciding yesterday that Aliens vs. Predator, due out in 2010, was too graphically violent for gamers Down Under. The board objected to the “explicit decapitation and dismemberment, as well as locational damage such as stabbing through the chest, throat, mouth or eyes.” The board paid particular attention to the Predator, which “can stab a character through both eyes with its wrist blade, and then rip off their head, with spinal column still attached.
Last week, Ned and his daughters started to realize that they weren’t entirely welcome at King’s Landing, and Catelyn started investigating Bran’s “fall.” The tension increases this week. The episode opens with Bran following a raven through the courtyard at Winterfell, which is moderately odd, given that he’s crippled from the waist down. Ah, but a closer inspection of the raven reveals the bird’s sporting a third eye in the middle of its head, and that Bran is dreaming.

The Twilight films divided fans upon arrival. Some adored The CW-esque melodrama and love triangle featuring a vampire, wolf, and human, while others questioned if Bram Stoker rolled in his grave twice over this depiction of bloodsuckers. Pattinson, the co-lead star of the franchise, couldn’t help but get in on the fun and throw jabs at Twilight whenever the opportunity presented itself, though he would often do it in a tongue-in-cheek manner.
That’s the message from developer No Code, previously responsible for Stories Untold and Observation. “We deeply apologize for any concerns about Silent Hill: Townfall,” No Code’s statement read. “Silent Hill: Townfall will continue to be co-developed by Konami, Annapurna Interactive and No Code.” We’re glad to hear that No Code is getting on with Silent Hill: Townfall, though the developer hasn’t mentioned what, if any, impact it’ll have on the timing of its release.
The MCU Shouldn’t Undo Andrew Garfield’s Great Send-Off After Disney’s various acquisitions and mergers, Marvel Studios is finally in a position to unify the Marvel multiverse. After all the legal headaches needed to get the rights to all the franchises characters, the MCU is finally able to give the Sony and Fox Marvel films the send off and service their fans deserve. With Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel was able to pull off an incredible feat, giving fans what was essentially a live action Spider-Verse film.
Building a virtual world set in the Star Trek universe must have felt like a sure bet for Cryptic studios and publisher Atari. The built-in community of fans and gamers excited to live and play in the United Federation of Planets as a member of Star Fleet would drive subscriptions. When the game came out in early 2010, I was impressed with the spaceship battles and could see the promise of the off-ship activities, but many players complained that killing endless MOBs to grind levels didn’t feel very Star Trek-ey.
When it came to Fallout 3, I was never much of a fan of the laser weapons. Not that I’d turn one down if I found myself in that wonderful spot of facing down a Deathclaw and being otherwise out of ammo, but by-and-large I liked gun with bullets. I always just found something more satisfying with pumping my foes full of lead as opposed to disintegrating them into a pile of smoking ash.
It’s a rare feeling to walk out of a big-budget narrative movie wishing that it was a documentary instead. And not just any documentary, but a 30-minute documentary – on cable. That’s precisely the reaction I had to Sully, which is Clint Eastwood’s take on the “Miracle on the Hudson” and its subsequent events for airline pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger (Tom Hanks). You may remember the event from 2009, when Sullenberger landed a plane on the Hudson River.
We hope you’re enjoying the comics in our Sunday Funnies as much as we are. They’re back for another round, so remember, if you have a favorite, show it some love! If you want to catch up on any issues you’ve missed, here you go: Issue One, Issue Two, Issue Three.
Paused Paused – The untold stories of characters when the game is paused… Being forced to live out your life as a computer game character can be quite grueling.
These days pretty much every major movie seems to be some kind of adaptation of this or that preexisting material, and while I don’t necessarily think that’s the end of the world or even the medium it does unquestionably present certain challenges for those of us on the reporting/critiquing end of the system. Pre-existing material means pre-existing ideas and expectations, and if your perspective wasn’t in some way colored by those things (assuming you have them in the first place) I don’t know what kind of human being you’d be.
Thanks to Osgood Perkins’ adaptation of King’s short story The Monkey, as well as Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man, now is as good a time as any to talk about King’s contributions to the world of film. However, when you’ve been writing stories as long as King has, some of those adaptations won’t be all that good. Maybe they’re like Maximum Overdrive, which was the only film that King ever directed (and it shows), or maybe they’re like The Dark Tower, which was an extremely ambitious story that failed in its execution.
Instead of going out to rent brown n’ bloom 17, buy Limbo. Buy Braid. Buy Minecraft. Buy some game you’ve never heard of by a developer that didn’t exist last year. I think you’ll find that the exploration is still there, it just moved and more people are doing it now. – Speakercone
In response to “The Mysteries of the Bin” from The Escapist forums: I keep up with the industry well enough that I’m usually buying a brand new game for $60 every other week.
