Before other series, such as The Last of Us or Fallout, which garnered praise for ending the “Video Game Adaptation Curse,” Arcane Season 1 defied expectations with its creative approach to League of Legends lore years earlier. The three-act structure and weekly release of the nine-episode first season helped to tell an incredibly engaging story with breathtaking animation from Studio Fortiche. Moreover, Arcane Season 1 did something very few adaptations with extensive lore manage to do: be a series that newcomers unfamiliar with League of Legends can enjoy, as well as diehard fans with extensive knowledge of the lore of the video game.

Batman: Arkham Origins has launched and, for the most part, has been receiving positive reviews. This will likely come as a relief to the game’s development team at Warner Bros. Montreal, which apparently had a bit of a rocky time making the game. According to Ben Mattes, senior producer for Arkham Origins, “resistance and reluctance [existed] at every level,” often leaving the studio itself wondering if it was up to the job.

French film maker Pierre Desgranges has fused a cornucopia of influences together to create his short noir-style movie, Batman: Deliverance. These include – bizarrely enough – the exploits of the mutant berserker Wolverine, who pops up for a rather stylish Marvel vs. DC grudge match with no explanation whatsoever. The film’s plot takes some of inspiration from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, with an aging Bruce Wayne who has given up his nocturnal vigilante activities.

But in the movies and the videogames (we’re just talking about Arkham here) it’s not nearly so simple. Writers seem to prefer the loner take on Batman. From a storytelling perspective, this seems a little backwards. In an animated medium, we need other characters for Batman to talk to so he can explain what he’s thinking and doing. The Arkham games handle this by having him call Alfred or Oracle once in a while and simply explain to them what he’s planning, so that the person holding the controller knows what they’re supposed to be trying to accomplish.

While it’s still not 100 percent confirmed if Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) will appear as Aquaman — or if the character will appear at all — in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, director Zack Snyder is apparently one of the superhero’s few supporters. On CBS Detroit, the DJs were talking smack on-air regarding the DC’s King of Atlantis, when Snyder, tired of all the bashing, called to set the record straight on Aquaman.

Back in May, director Zack Snyder gave the world its first glimpse of Ben Affleck as the new Batman in his follow up to Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. There are two main ways to build him: by making him a more defensive, reactive archer who damages anyone who steps into his line of sight, or by making him a more straightforward DPS unit who just moves forward and shoots arrows. While you could just turn him into another strong DPS unit, I think there’s some merit in making him a more reactive archer instead.
