The past weeks have been one heck of a time for devoted Marvel fans. All told the famed comics publisher announced more than a dozen events over the course of October and during the beginning days of November. The big question surrounding all of the announcements, of course, is what they were all driving toward. Arguably the strongest belief among many comic fans was that the company was launching the books in question as part of the new Secret Wars mega event that initially kicked off its epic string of announcements.
PC gamers have a reason to be happy: Activision and Infinity Ward have listened to their feedback about dedicated servers in the Call of Duty games, and will be including them in Modern Warfare 3. What’s more, unlike Black Ops’ dedicated servers, it won’t cost a dime to run one. Writing on his blog, Activision’s Dan Amrich said that there had been a lot of complaints about cheaters on the PC in the original Modern Warfare, which had prompted Infinity Ward to try something different for Modern Warfae 2.

How Does the Platform 2 End? The Platform 2‘s ending is more or less a repeat of the original’s ending, with protagonist Perempuan sending a child up on the platform, just like Goreng did in the original. However, we discover that the events of this movie take place before The Platform, making it a prequel. Perempuan and her then-cellmate Zamiatin stick to The Loyalists’ rules, but things go downhill. Zamitatin commits suicide, and she has her arm removed by Anointed One Dagin Babi as a consequence for helping enforce the law when it wasn’t her place.
On the outskirts of Cruzeiro do Oeste in southern Brazil, paleontologists have uncovered the bones of almost fifty pterosaurs, large flying reptiles that lived alongside dinosaurs. The pterosaurs are a new species with a large bony crest on their heads, a feature not seen in other pterosaur species. Pterosaurs, sometimes called pterodactyls, are the earliest known flying vertebrates, animals that have backbones. The newly excavated discovery is a huge group of adults and juveniles, giving paleontologists a unique chance to chart pterosaur growth.
Bethesda Softwork’s Peter Hines has taken to Twitter to put an end to rumors that a big, Fallout-related announcement was set to happen during this year’s VGX awards. “I am not going to VGX. Bethesda is not showing/talking about anything at VGX. Just some PR meetings in LA,” he said. “Take deep breaths.” All of this rumor revolves around the mysterious The Survivor 2299 website that appeared last month with a mysterious timer, and some Fallout references.

BioWare may have revealed that Mass Effect 3 will be the end of Commander Shepard’s story, but that doesn’t mean that the character isn’t going out in a blaze of glory. Based on a ten-minute hands-on demo I got to play at PAX Prime, it’s pretty obvious that Shepard and his crew have never been tougher. The demo was, essentially, one prolonged firefight. The set-up is that Mordin Solus has found a cure for the genophage that rendered nearly all the females of the Krogan race sterile.

Richard Garriott’s stint at NCsoft was not without its bumps. Sony’s contractual obligation to make a new Spider-Man movie every three years in order to retain rights to the character but lack of success in turning those films into solid franchise-building hits is the biggest broken record in Hollywood – but the studio might be looking to play a new tune. On Monday, reliable HitFix journalist Drew McWeeny passed along some industry gossip on the subject, namely that Sony is talking to Marvel about “opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe” in a way that would help boost the profile of Sony’s troubled franchise.
